St. Augustine Lighthouse Replica Playhouse

15' Tall Children's Playhouse for the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. I designed this beaut in BobCAD/CAM and used a 5'x10' CNC router to cut out all sheathing and trim. Five 4'x10'x3/8" cellular PVC panels were machined on both sides to create the appearance of brick on the outside, and allow a kerf (a series of grooves spaced about one inch apart) to be placed on the inside to accomodate the curvature of the underlying frame. A ladder leads to a loft where children can see out the top through a periscope. Curved acrylic windows. Hurricane-resistant.
Approximate retail price: $15,000.
Background in this image was added in Photoshop.

Snapper in the Road

After barely avoiding this gentleman, I decided to pull off the road and 'snap' a few. The early afternoon light enhanced the creature's weathered and scaly details and the pavement added additional texture without compromising the drab hues that give the image its toughness. This fellow was intent on holding his ground in the middle of the road and my tender and fleshy hands would be no match for those jaws.
I persuaded this caterpillar to climb aboard a stick, where I was able to isolate its back against the hazy sky in order to get a clean shot of the textures and colors away from the clutter of debris on the ground.
